10 commentsZoo 2 arrives…
We’re now inviting our loyal blog and forum readers to give us a hand in testing Zoo 2, which is in beta as they say on the internet. To take part, follow this link to complete a short survey about your experiences with Galaxy Zoo so far. The whole thing shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes, and you’ll be rewarded with the link to our trial site for Galaxy Zoo 2. Once you’re classifying away, share your thoughts with us either here or in the forum.
19 commentsGalaxy Zoo on Sky at Night
I’m delighted to confirm that this month’s Sky at Night will cover Galaxy Zoo. Patrick talked to Hanny earlier in the summer, and Bob, Kate and I spent some of last weekend talking in front of the cameras. We talked for more than an hour, and the team led by producer Jane Fletcher have spent the last week editing us down so that we fit within the programme. I have no idea what they’ve come up with, and am looking forward to seeing it.
There are many, many ways to get to watch this gem of televisual entertainment :
If you’re in the UK :
BBC One : Midnight, Sunday night (ie early Monday morning), repeated on Saturday 13th at 2pm on BBC Two.
BBC Four : Special EXTENDED edition (30 minutes instead of BBC one’s 20) : Tuesday evening at 7.30pm, repeated at 1.35am on Wednesday morning.
The show will also be available on the iplayer for a week after broadcast.
If you’re not in the UK :
The show will turn up on our webpage at a week or two after broadcast.
edited by Edd to update BBC Four broadcast time
15 commentsGalaxy Zoo Poster Available
A few months ago we asked anyone who felt so inclined to record their name to be added to the image which is referenced in each and every Galaxy Zoo paper. It features more than 5000 zooites spread across a beautiful Hubble image of a (clockwise) spiral galaxy, and looks fantastic!
You can order the poster from the new Galaxy Zoo Online Shop.

It is 29.6″ x 21.0″ [750 x 530 mm] in size and printed on heavyweight, semi-gloss paper using superior dye inks.
The price is $17.99 [plus postage], which is is merely the cost price that Cafepress.com are charging to print it.
Why not check it out!
We are considering offering other Galaxy Zoo related goodies to coincide with the launch of Zoo 2 — so keep checking the Blog and Forum for updates.
7 commentsGalaxy Zoo Paper update
With so many fabulous results working their way through the system, you’d be forgiven for losing track of exactly what’s happening with the Galaxy Zoo papers, so I thought a quick update was in order.First of all, the 5th Galaxy Zoo paper has been submitted, presenting the initial results of our study of Hanny’s Voorwerp; one simple question on the forum has led to a paper with 19 authors, from 14 different institutions.
We’ve already had a first response from the referee, who told us that we needed to be more careful with some of the results we were reporting; we’ve corrected our missteps, and it’ll go back to the journal today. We also had a referee’s response to Steven’s paper, and will let you know more when we can.Various other papers are in the works; in the last week or so I’ve spent a lot of time arguing over the mergers sample, taking a closer look at rings and having my first look at Anze’s work on rotating spirals. Plenty more work to do, and plenty more news to tell you about as we continue to make the most of all your hard work.Chris
