The Merging Anntennae Galaxies
A near-by system of well-studied, merging galaxies. Particularly interesting are the pockets of intensive star-formation (coloured bright white-red in image) and tracks of opaque dust clouds (brown in image). The star formation is the reult of gas clouds colliding and compressing.
